Everyone's done it. You've got something you have to do, but there are all these other ridiculous activities that are suddenly so appealing. YouTube, Facebook, twitter, doodling... what do you do when your procrastinating? Ok so we know what procrastinating is, so how do we stop it and do what we need to do?
Firstly, it's important to realize that procrastination is avoidance. We are not just avoiding the activity, but our body is avoiding the feeling that we have during the activity. Whether it be boredom, stress or physical exertion, our bodies naturally find ways to escape these painful feelings. This is why it's so hard to break the habit, because we are fighting against ourselves. Your mind will try and rationalize your feelings by saying things like, "I can do it later".
There's only one person who can stop you procrastinating and that is of course you. To be able to overcome your body and get your task done your going to have to bite the bullet and start what you need to do. When you experience the bad feelings, you need to take notice of them and try your hardest to view them as a good thing. This is you changing, every time you experience pain you become stronger and stronger.
A painful event or feeling is an opportunity for growth. Athletes didn't like pushing their bodies to the limit over and over at the start. But they started to appreciate what it would do for them and so began to embrace it.
So to stop procrastinating, you must take note of the feelings you are experiencing and embrace them for making you a stronger person. Then you take action, no matter how dull, stressful or difficult it is, you must take action.
