A lot of people tend to compartmentalize their lives. They do not want their work life to interfere with their home life and they do not want their secular lives to interfere with the religious. When you are living with a purpose, you need to integrate every aspect of your life so that it becomes coherent and integrated.
The beauty of an integrated life is that it is aligned with your purpose. If the description above seems true to you, you need to analyze your life and look at the places that you are separating. Does your purpose translate to your work life? When you go home, does your family see the purpose that you say you are living for?
If there are consistencies in the different areas of your life, it means then that you are not fully living in accordance to the purpose you discovered for your life. That might a little too close to cheating and living a double life. By compartmentalizing your life, it becomes complicated and difficult to manage. You also become more prone to abusing different areas of your life, neglecting others, and giving preferential treatment to another at the expense of the others.
What you need is integration. You need to view your life as a coherent whole. True, we may never be completely coherent but at least, our lives should be defined by a central purpose through which the other activities would revolve around. Working for each and every compartment is tiring and might lead you to exhaustion. When you work on your life as a whole, you come closer to your dreams, purpose, and vision.
By following a single purpose in life, you can turn your life around. It can become coherent, and you can begin following the same kinds of rules. Your whole life, too, moves into the same direction, freeing you from following different conflicting directions at all times.
Obviously, your life is interconnected and you cannot do away with an area of your life. What you need to do then is to affirm that connection by refusing to treat each area in isolation. Your work is connected with your family life; your family life is connected with your personal well-being; and your personal well-being is important for your job. With the interaction of these areas of life, you can further enhance your passion and pursue the things that you really love doing.
An integrated life flows out of your purpose and your vision. As such, you need to work on one and make sure that everything works out together.
