The Principle that You Can Use to Make Success and Money as Familiar as Old Friends

Would you like to establish new patterns of success and abundance that drive higher levels of achievement?

And would you like to make success and money as familiar as old friends? Of course you would! And this is easier than you might imagine.

I base this assertion on this principle of human nature: When given a choice, we are more likely to choose the familiar.

This is another way of saying:

We are creatures of habit.
The more things change, the more they stay the same.
The devil you know is better than the devil you do not know.

This principle of human nature is the reason people linger far longer than they might otherwise in marriages that do not work and jobs that offer little if any advancement. It is why we might stay in some other life situation that stinks and is unlikely to change.

It is the reason people cling to old beliefs that might have been useful in the past and have long since outlived their usefulness. It is why we sometimes trip over the same mental and emotional stone again and again and again.

And then, amazingly, we find ourselves in a familiar mess and say “How did this happen?” And what precipitates the pattern of familiarity that generates results that become unhappy and unwelcome fixtures in our experience?

We repeat a series of thoughts, emotions, and evaluations. We hold the same mental pictures of expected outcomes. And we use body language that supports and enhances the existing pattern.

When something in our day triggers these patterns, we unconsciously assume a certain state of mind that is familiar and well-worn. And, not surprisingly, it generates more or less familiar results.

Why? We reinforce the inner mental and emotional patterns once again. And they produce the same predictable results once again.

Given this explanation, only a fool would be shocked to be in the same swamp surrounded by the same alligators, would you not agree? Here is a simple way to break this pattern of self-limitation.

Ask yourself: How do wealthy and successful people think that causes them to avoid the mess I am in right now? Then trust your mind for an answer.

This answer might be:

They access risk differently than I do.
They choose situations in which they already have an advantage.
They focus on one chief objective.
They do not allow things to interfere with success.

Or your mind might offer another something else. In any case, notice how familiar thought patterns lead to familiar results.

And do not think that just because the end result is uncomfortable, it is still familiar and that is why we gravitate to it. I know this sounds counterintuitive and almost absurd. Yet the truth is we are more likely to gravitate to familiar limitation rather than unfamiliar success.

Go figure.
