Getting Started With Pocket Bikes

Most of us would have heard of the adage that ‘happiness comes in small packages’. From miniature models of buildings to bonsais and even dogs, there are many examples for things that many people prefer in smaller sizes. The case is no different with motorcycles. Call them mini bikes, pocket bikes or pocket rockets, they seem to be the favorite with children and teens nowadays. A little bit of open area is all that they need to zip around in these sleek miniature motorcycle models.

Typically pocket bikes would stand around 1 to 2 feet tall and are easy to maneuver and maintain. Needless to say because of their size, they are also pretty easy to store. The maximum load bearing capacity of these sleek pocket rocket bikes would be around 300 pounds. These minibikes are usually quite powerful for their small size. Many of them are known to reach speeds of even up to 40 mph, which is quite decent keeping in mind their tiny size. In fact you can find some of them reaching speeds of up to 70 mph as in the case of many of the ‘super’ pocket bikes.

These mini pocket bikes could be either electric or gas powered and are usually equipped with a 49 cc engine. Although the concept of coming out with pocket bikes actually began in Japan, the popularity of these pocket bikes spread quickly across different parts of the world. Many leading European bike manufacturers began doing research and development into producing quality pocket bikes.

It was quite difficult to find replacement parts for these pocket rockets during earlier days. It is no longer the case, with replacement parts being available widely these days. As an increasing number of people get caught in the pocket rocket frenzy, it is but obvious that an increasing number of motorbike stores stock up replacement parts for these tiny little bikes. Whether it is disk breaks, tires, engines, colorful body panels or rims, you name it and you can find the part for a mini motorcycle nowadays.

Since safety is of paramount importance when riding these minibikes, you can also find a whole lot of biking accessories meant for mini bikes being sold in the market these days. You can find literally everything ranging from pads to headgears, exclusively meant for pocket rockets being available in leading motorbike stores.

You can shop for these mini bikes at most of the leading bike stores near you. Their prize would range anywhere from 200 dollars going up to even 1000 dollars depending on the features of the bike. With competition among bike stores being intense, you can be sure to find one that would be able to sell one to you at an affordable price these days.

Before you buy these sleek little pocket bikes, you will first of all need to find out whether your state allows them on the street. Even if they are not allowed to be ridden in public, remember you are not prohibited from owning one. You can always use them for riding off-road. You could also use them in parade or designated race areas. Wherever you may ride them, you must make sure that you take care of the safety aspect. You should always ride them with the safety gear on.
