Motorcycle Safety
Some interesting points on motorcycle safety
Motorcycles are less safe than cars and must be operated with great caution.
Motorcycles are small and may be difficult for drivers of other vehicles to see.
Motorcycles are difficult to pick up in rear-view mirrors in cars, and it's easy to be hidden in a blind spot
Motorcycles are reasonably safe to ride, but very dangerous to learn.
Because of their smaller size, motorcycles are less visible and may appear to be farther away than they really are.
With warmer weather here, more motorcycles are back out on the road and the drivers of passenger vehicles need to be alert.
Because of their low crash protection and high performance capabilities, motorcycles are more likely to be involved in a severe collision.
Riders who wear a helmet are twice as likely to survive if they suffer an accident.
The motorcycle riders involved in accidents are essentially without training; 92% were self-taught or learned from family or friends.
Seventy-three percent of the accident-involved motorcycle riders used no eye protection, and it is likely that the wind on the unprotected eyes contributed in impairment of vision which delayed hazard detection.
More than half of all motorcycle accidents involve riders with less than 5 months or 500 miles of experience.
The use of the safety helmet is the single critical factor in the prevention of reduction of head injury; the safety helmet which complies with FMVSS 218 is a significantly effective injury countermeasure.
There is no liability for neck injury by wearing a safety helmet;helmeted riders had less neck injuries than unhelmeted riders.
So be careful when you out-fit yourself for riding that you don’t buy improper gear or a machine not prepared for the road because your safety means a lot.
Better traffic safety education is the key to make motorcycles much safer
