Would you Ban your Kids From Atv?

Would you ban your kids from ATV?

In any sort of recreational sports, especially extreme sports, there are bound to be risks and dangers involved and ATV riding is of no exception too. Hence, knowing the risks and dangers that lurk around, would you ban your kids from ATV riding? Do you really think that banning them from riding on the ATVs is the solution to all the ATV accidents that you hear and read about?

On a personal note, I don’t really think that banning our kids from ATV riding is going to do much – because it will only make them even more curious as to why you would never let them try to ride on one. It would make more sense to allow them to ride on one and at the same time teach them to be responsible riders. Yes, responsibility can be taught and children are able to learn real quickly too. Besides, the popularity of ATVs has grown so much over the years that there isn’t any kid in this country that has not heard of ATVs.

Like I said earlier, you can teach your kids to be responsible - for their own lives as well as the lives of other riders when they are riding on their ATVs. I am sure that you know the rules of ATV safety – no pillion riding, no riding on adult ATVs if you are below 16 years old, no riding under the influence of drugs or alcohol, no riding on paved roads, always wear your protective gears, and the list goes on, so it’s your duty as a parent, to teach your kids about the safety of ATV riding. And the most important thing of all – get them the right kind of ATV. If your child is below 16 years of age, it is best to get them a Kid ATV. You will be able to find some great selections of Kid ATVs from websites like www.jackel.com or www.kidatv.com They specialize in dealing with Kid ATVs, so they are the best people to go to for your child’s Kid ATV.

Before you even get your son his Kid ATV, be sure to sit him down and talk through with him the rules and regulations of ATV riding and what you expect from him when he goes ATV riding. Tell him the consequences that he will have to face if he does not obey the rules – such as grounding him from riding his ATV for a month or any other form of “punishment” that you deem fit. When you first set your rules and expectations with your child, it will make him learn to be a responsible rider because he wouldn’t want to loose all the privileges that come with the rules and expectations that you have set for him when he goes ATV riding.

It may not be easy to try and make your kid stick to the rules that you have set, but if you remain firm with the rules set and carry out the “punishment” whenever he breaks the rules, slowly but surely, your kid will learn not to break the rules and be a responsible rider. Do some reading and researching of your own – read up about the ATV safety rules and regulations, check out the forums at ATV websites like www.atvoutdoor.net and read what the other kids or youths ATV riders’ parents have to say about their kids riding on ATVs. You may even be able to pick up a tip or two from them on how to get your kid to be a safe and responsible rider. It’s always better to be safe than sorry!
