Juno as a Philosophical and Psychological Movie

Juno is the kind of comedy that has more then laughs to offer. It is not unique, it will not be remembered for more then 2 years, the characters are pretty regular for a comedy. But it makes us feel good, it makes us experience happiness. This movie is really enjoyable, the kind of Woody Allen movie.

Juno is like Little Miss Sunshine, a movie which is realistic and isn't realistic. No girl will make fun of her situation and her baby. The characters are funny, but in the real world they can't survive. And yet, people get related to this movie.

Getting Knocked Up, happens all the time (Look at Katrine Hegel), being unhappy, looking for ways out of their parents home. That's where the audience feels the reality of life kicks in when they watch Juno.

Juno is a fantasy only in the dialogues! But everything else is real.

Sex on the Sofa
Sofa, comfort, sitting down, having sex. The Sofa in Juno has a major role. In a philosophical rare way, the sofa is a great metaphor of growing up, responsibility and becoming an adult!

Throughout the movie, Juno looks for ways to grow up. In the end she finds her adulthood, when she stops being so tight and screams, “I'm in love with you” to her boyfriend, Paulie. This is Juno, being an adult. The way to this adulthood started on that sofa, where she had a random act that made her happy in the end of the way.

Jason Bateman is another character who suffers from childish behavior. It's something he can't control, but this sofa is a symbol of Betman's character.

It's also understandable that Juno likes Bateman. He is like her, but unlike him, Juno does grow up to be an adult (At the age of 16!!!). Bateman’s character, Mark decides to stay a child. His journey was the opposite of Juno’s, he became a child and neglected his Adulthood.

Juno as a comedy
Most of the comedy in Juno is within the dialogue. Just like Little Miss Sunshine, the comedy is very sharp surreal and above all funny.

But more then everything it shows, how, Juno lives in a great denial. She doesn't understand her situation and places a decoy within her comedic sentences, so she wouldn't really deal with the issue. Amazingly this surreal Hilarious lines she delivers work for everybody. They just take the situation, the way it is. There are no miracles, just a situation! That's it.

The movie gives you a feeling that no one, takes the pregnancy seriously. And maybe that is how we in the real world should feel...
