Steven Moffat To Write The New Tintin Movie

The Tintin movie is slowly building momentum and Spielberg and Jackson are quite deliberately putting in place the pieces needed to produce what most Tintin fans hope to be a wonderful recreation of their beloved Belgium boy detective.

Nick Rodwell is the husband of Herge's widow Fanny, the holder of the universal rights for the Tintin estate and was quoted as saying "There will be a worldwide promotion, and we will emerge from the Belgian, French and Swiss ghetto to reach for China and the U.S.," he said. "It will be a big Hollywood production, nearer the $100 million mark than the $20 million, but that's not my business."

The person linked to the writing of this large Hollywood production is one Steven Moffat who is most famous for writing the better episodes of the new Doctor Who series.

Steven Moffat was first seen as a writer on television for a programme could "Stay Lucky" where he was credited on an episode called "The Devil Wept In Leeds". Steven Moffat has become a well known writer of TV in Britain and has many credits including "Coupling" seen as Britain's answer to friends that proved very popular amongst the 24-35 age bracket.

Steven Moffat has recently turned to producing more seriously (he had produced the odd TV episode) as well as writing with the series "Jekyll" he was in the editing suite. This allowed Moffat to have greater control of his artistic vision. It isn't thought however his producing skills will be needed on the Tintin project.

The whole project is clouded in secrecy and there is still some debate as to which of the Tintin albums will be the recipient of the first adaptation to the big screen. Although it will probably be one after the introduction of Captain Haddock as Andy Serkis of Gollum fame is linked to play that much loved Tintin character.

Spielberg and Jackson will come together on this project using the combined resources of Dreamworks and The Weta Workshop to bring Tintin to life. They plan to film three Tintin Movies back to back for expediency and financial benefit. The rumours claim that the first Tintin movie should be in post production by early 2009 with the film coming out later in that year.

Kathleen Kennedy is serving as producer on the three Tintin trilogy, which will be made using performance-capture technology and produced in digital 3-D. Jackson and Spielberg are each directing an instalment, with the director of the third movie to be determined at a later date.
