Bower wide angle lens ... not sharp.

Wondering if my experience is unique.  Purchased a 67 mm Bower close up lens adapter and attached it to my Canon 17-85mm lens.  Results were fuzzy and showed excessive vignetting.  Purchased on ebay ... seller says lens is best one of it's kind and is not willing to permit a return. Have I got a dud?  Have any others used this lens with happy results? Bill
