Being the sandbag is such a great workout there have been a lot of different exercises developed to take advantage of it. You can pretty much use a sandbag to target every muscles group as a whole or individually. It can also be a great fat burning endurance event that will leave you exhausted.
After a warm up try bringing the sandbag up onto one of your shoulders and going for a run. Your legs and upper body will definitely feel it. You could also run with it for a short distance, stop and do over head presses or some other exercise and run again, repeating this for a few exercises.
Try picking the sandbag up off the floor by using the proper technique for picking up something heavy by bending the knees and watching your back. Grasp the bag under the two ends and explosively pick the bag up by standing straight up and bring the bag up onto your right shoulder. Repeat this for a number of repetitions then do the same for the left shoulder.
For your grip strength, grasp any loose material of the bag that you can with one hand and lift it up. Hold on for a count of 10 or longer if it’s easy. Now lift with the other hand. For an alternative try holding a sandbag in each hand and carry those as you would for a farmers walk. Getting a stronger grip is an important part of your strength development as it will help you lift heavier weights or objects.
