Weight training exercises can be confusing to many guys and when you going from small and skinny to muscle bound you cannot afford to be flying blind on what you need to do because as a skinny guy the odds are stacked against you to start with.
Skinny guys or Ectomorphs have genes that make it difficult for you to gain weight in regards to fat but also in regards to musculature due to your high metabolism. This means you need to eat differently and also weight train differently than other guys to work with your body type rather than fight against it.
This list of exercises can give you a great start to your bodybuilding goals as they have been taken from a highly successful training system mad by a formerly skinny guy for the skinny guy looking to pack on the pounds.
Shoulders
Chest
- Bench Press
- Flat DB Chest Press
Back
- Close Grip Chin Ups - The closer your hands are together the more it activates the back muscles, too far apart and it will not help that area
- Bent Over Barbell Rows
Lower Back
- The Good Morning - For this you need to have a barbell on your shoulders and bend your knees slightly while leaning forward keeping your back straight and looking forward (which helps keep it straight)
Hips
- Deadlifts - This is a 'must do' exercises as it exercises muscles way beyond the hips also and should be included as often as possible
- Stiff Leg Deadlifts
Abdominals
- Weighted Ball Sit-ups
- Weighted Cable Crunches - Cabled machines are far superior for your muscles and avoiding injury than static machines.
Calves
- Standing Calve Raises
Biceps
- Incline Bicep Curls - Do not overly focus on the bicep, it is a show muscle more than a muscle that gives you much more strength
- Standing Barbell Curls
Triceps
- Dips
- Tricep Pressdowns
Quads
- Squats - This is one of the best exercises out there much like the deadlift in that it activates muscles all over as well as your quads
- Lunges
These exercises were proven to work for skinny to muscle seekers by a former skinny guy who became an award winning body builder in just 6 months.
