Since her early childhood, it was fairly obvious to the Spears family that their daughter would become a star. Before even reaching her late teens, Britney Spears was already an accomplished state gymnast, an actress for a few off-Broadway plays, a Star Search finalist and a Disney Mousecateer.
Her biggest break, however, came in 1998, when Spears’ contagious pop single "…Baby One More Time" broke through the Billboard Hot 100 charts and topped them for two weeks. The singer’s debut album, combined with the controversial video for its first single and a revealing Rolling Stone cover, served to instantly grab America’s attention. By the time Britney’s follow-up album, Oops!… I Did It Again, was in 2001, Spears was already America’s not so innocent sweetheart and the talk of every household.
To date, Britney’s first two albums have sold a combined 45,000,000 copies worldwide.
Since Oops!… I Did it Again, Britney Spears has released four additional albums and sold more than 182 million records worldwide. She currently holds the record as the only female in history to have all of her albums debut in Billboard 200’s top 2 spots and has received everything from Grammies to VMA’s for her efforts.
Spears’ latest album, Circus, was released in the United States on December 2, 2008, the same date as the singer’s twenty-seventh birthday. The album’s first single, "Womanizer", has become Spears’ first number one Billboard hit since "…Baby One More Time" and to celebrate this recent success, Brit has decided to hit the road and bring female pop group The Pussycat Dolls, with her. The Circus Starring Britney Spears tour will feature both of these remarkable pop artists, in Canada, the United States and Europe, starting in March of 2009. The tour will truly mark the pop queen’s return to her throne, as it is her first concert series in five years.
