Finding Music Internships

Now I am like the next person, I hate to do things for nothing. But I also hate to sit and listen to someone tell me how to get rich in the music business. I mean, if he actually knew all the ways to actually get rich in music, wouldn’t he BE rich and not working for low wages telling people how to do it? Think about that one for a moment and let it sink in. Those that know it do and those that don’t talk and teach about it. Now with my thoughts known on that, it’s a lot more fun for you to take out the trash at a recording studio working at a music internship and learning about microphone placement by actually doing it and making contacts that may actually do you some good down the line than it is hearing the nuts and bolts about placing microphones and having to actual point of reference. Finding a place to get a music internship shouldn’t be a very difficult thing for you to do. You do a web search or dust off the old yellow pages and start calling these places and let them know who you are, what you want to do for them and what your long term goals are. You might be surprised how quickly you can actually be non-gainfully employed in the music business. Checking out freelancing and social networking places also allows you to locate some opportunities. Remember, not every job in this business is going to require you to physically be at the location. Graphic designers, for one example, can work from anywhere and email the files to and from the actual location where they are needed. This won’t give as many in and contacts but it will get your foot inside the door for other positions as they become available and you have proved your worth to them.
