Most guitarists don't realize that they may be neglecting their instrument and forgetting how to clean and care for their guitars. You might find yourself getting mocked for more than your playing skills if you're sporting a dirty instrument on stage at the next gig.
If you haven't done it that much before, you should learn how to clean your guitar well. Don't wait any longer and follow these easy tips for cleaning your guitar.
1. Store it in a cool room.
If you've ever walked into a very nice guitar store, you'll have noticed that the best guitars are kept in a climate-controlled atmosphere. If you have the means, keep your guitar in a relatively cool room when it's not being played.
2. Purchase a guitar case with a very soft interior.
Nowadays it's almost impossible to find guitar cases that actually don't have a very soft interior, but for some this tip still holds its weight. This is a very simple way how to keep your guitar clean.
3. Keep your practice space clean.
If there are half-eaten pizzas and dirty clothes lying all over the place where you practice, it's only a matter of time before your guitar starts showing the same signs. Keep your room clean and keep your guitar clean.
4. Take a tooth brush to the hardware.
There are some very small crevices all over the guitar that you may wonder how you can ever get them clean. Simply take a small brush or sponge and get in there for a deep cleanse.
5. Use glass cleaner on smudges.
Your guitar is definitely going to accumulate a large number of smudges and prints from your fingers. Take some Windex out of the cupboard and restore the body back to its original flawless shine.
It might be a drag, but learning how to care for and clean your guitar is a very important part of being a musician. Show your instrument how much you love it and give it a nice bathing when it really needs it.
