For starters, let’s attempt to grasp what a techno remix is really all about. The basics of a techno remix are essentially taking a pre-existing audio or media clip, something that can be spliced with an editing program, and then remixing, re-hashing, or mixing up the various parts that make the song what it is. A remix is not simply a vomiting up of the original song or video, it’s simply a completely new version that has been re-thought and put together to express some new element or style of the music or movie.
There are several software programs you can get to create awesome techno remixes. These strictly audio-based software files are ones like Fruity Loops, Audacity, or Ultramixer. They let you load in a file – say you want to remix Madonna’s latest ultra hit or some other silly garbage to make it tons better—the song is laid out before you in a visualized way. Often you see sound files and different base sections stylized as individual blocks or colors to make it easy to manipulate.
Then you just isolate the parts of the song you like or the funny lyrics that work and repeat them to assemble a different beat. Toss in some melodies and base drum smacks to keep the tempo going, of course. The idea is to discover a totally new song hiding inside the original one. Maybe you’re going for laughs or maybe you just want to make a song more badass for a party.
