Keith Lionel Urban better known simply as Keith Urban is an Australian country music singer.
Keith Urban was born on in Whangarei, New Zealand on 26 October, 1967. Urban had a dream of adopting the music business since his childhood. He started learning the techniques when he was just six years old. He had won young singing contests by age eight. He was able to book his band in local clubs at the age of 12. Finally, he quit school to hit the road at 15. EMI in Australia signed Urban in 1990 and recorded his first solo album. This album proved to be a super hit and it charted four No. 1 country hits in Australia. Urban moved to Nashville to pursue the largest country music market in the world in 1992.
Unluckily, Keith addicted to cocaine in Nashville. This affected badly both his health and his career. However, he showed determination of giving up the habit in 1998. He got himself checked into Cumberland Heights, a treatment center in Nashville.Soon he was cleaned up. Then Urban released his self-titled American debut in 2000. This proved to be a huge success. The album produced
produced three top 5 hits. This album won him the Top New Male Vocalist Award at the 2001 Academy of Country Music Awards and the 2001 Country Music Association's Horizon Award.
Urban's guitar skills were exceptional and earned him great reputation. He enjoyed performing as a session musician on albums such as Garth Brooks' Double Live, the Dixie Chicks' Fly, and Paul Brandt's This Time Around. He appeared semi-nude in photos accompanying an interview for Playgirl magazine and on the cover of the April 2001 issue.
In 2002, Urban released Golden Road. His career was in high gear with the success of the single "Somebody Like You". The single spent eight consecutive weeks at the top of the charts, remaining at No. 1 longer than any other country artist in 2002. Three other singles Touring as a supporting act for renowned country acts Brooks & Dunn and Kenny Chesney honed Urban's skills and stage-craft. Urban's first headlining arena tour titled Keith Urban Be Here '04 was sponsored by Country video channel CMT. Katrina Elam was the opening act of this tour. Urban did not stop there. His fame went on rising with a very successful tour with Elam called Alive in '05.
Urban has the honor of performing in the Live 8 Philadelphia concert on July 2, 2005. He was chosen by The Gap to appear alongside seven other musical stars in their "Favorites" campaign. He was proud to be named the 2005 CMA's Entertainer of the Year.
In late September 2005, Urban released a DVD entitled Livin' Right Now. It was recorded in at the Wiltern Theater in California in December 2004.
Urban has recently availed the opportunities of performing "Better Life" on the CMA Awards and "You'll Think of Me" on the American Music Awards. He also enjoyed performing at the Grammys playing "You'll Think of Me" and "The Lucky One" with Faith Hill. At the 2006 ACM Awards Urban performed "Tonight I Wanna Cry" and entertained the audience by playing guitar for Brooks & Dunn's song "Believe."
Urban's new single "Once in a Lifetime" set a new record for the highest-debuting country single in the 62-year history of Billboard's country charts. Urban made history on August 21, 2006 when this new single was debuted at #17. The record was formerly held by Garth Brooks' "Good Ride Cowboy" and Eddie Rabbitt's "Every Which Way But Loose", both of which debuted at #18. "Good Ride Cowboy" was the highest in the BDS era (1990-present).
Urban met Australian actress Nicole Kidman at G'Day LA in January 2005. It is a Hollywood event honouring Australians in. Kidman and Urban were married on Sunday June 25, 2006, at the Cardinal Cerretti Memorial Chapel in the grounds of St Patrick's Estate, Manly in Sydney.
Urban announced his completion of rehab and his plans to go on tour to promote his new album, Love, Pain & the whole crazy thing on Jan. 18, 2007.
