The Basics on How To Sell Your Beats

If you’re a music producer or beatmaker looking for ways to earn money on the Internet by selling your own beats and instrumentals online, this article is for you.  This article offers advice on selling your beats successfully online.

  1. Make hits.  Your beats must be superb and must have appeal outside your inner circle.  That means you don’t just play it for your friends, you play if for people you don’t know who are most likely to be honest with you about whether or not it’s a hit.  Don’t spend tons of money promoting a beat if you aren’t certain you’ll have the support of the local artists.
  2. Pursue as many sales channels as possible.  Soundclick is a great place to start.  It costs very little to get your beats setup on their website.  Soundclick have a huge audience of rappers and R&B artists seeking  rap and R&B beats.
  3. Setup your own web site as well as set up accounts on big social networks like Myspace, Facebook, and Twitter.  Set up your profiles on these social networks so that you have a presence on them.  You are building your name and brand on these sites.  Other social beat sites include beatbuggy and mybeatshop.  Be an active participant on these sites.
  4. Build your fan base.  This includes adding friends to  your social networks as well as adding names and emails to your list.  You can inform your fan base of any news or events happening with your production.
  5. Build up your brand.  Keep producing new beats.  Some fans will buy one item one day and another beat another day.  Offer specials and incentives.  Give discounts for bundle purchases.  Don’t be afraid to sell some of your beats for free.
  6. Don’t be afraid to ask customers to help you promote your beats.  People will usually be willing to do it.
  7. Make it as easy to buy and listen to your beats as possible.  People want to hear samples of your beats before they buy it.  Make sure on your website, you have audio samples of your beats or at least link to a site that has (ex Soundclick or Beatbuggy).
  8. Above all, work, work, work.  Don’t give up and keep building your brand.
