Whether it’s a birthday party, a celebration or even your wedding reception the key to success is flexibility. It is very important to work with your DJ on exactly how you would like your party to be. Obviously an experienced DJ will give the benefit of their expertise and advise you on what works, and of course what does not, but never lose sight of the fact that you are paying the bill and ultimately you want your night to be remembered for all the right reasons!
First of all do your homework and check them out. What have other people said about them and can they provide good references, have they got Public Liability Insurance? Start with the simple stuff. A good DJ should have a personality to match and building a strong rapport will ensure you get across your vision. Clearly communicate the “must haves” and write a list capturing every detail, right down to what the DJ should wear if it’s important to the style of the occasion.
Next consider your guest list. What are their age ranges likely to be, would a mix of dancing and “karaoke” appeal to them and what type of music will get your party jumping? Your DJ may also suggest some special effects to liven things up so it’s a good idea to check these out with your venue before you book anything.
Now there’s nothing worse than having everyone up on the dance floor, really getting into the swing of things and then the next track drives everyone back to their seats. Think about requests and your guests’ tastes fitting in with your party. Good mobile discos keeps things moving and has some tricks up his sleeve to get everyone joining in. Things to remember when looking for DJ hire services.
I spoke to a well known DJ agency that I know and have used, a mobile disco and karaoke entertainment agency based in the South of England. DJ Sammy has a huge amount of experience in the industry and set up his business 14 years ago. He says, “I know what it takes to make a great party and I always work with my clients to prepare their perfect night. We’ll do whatever it takes to make our events a success. Well I say ‘our’ events, but it’s a partnership really. My knowledge and ideas combined with the host’s vision is enough to create a party to remember for everyone.”
