As children, we naturally yearn to believe in good things, in God, and in the feeling that we are safe.
Growing up, little by little, that faith, even if it has been nurtured by our parents and churches, has a way of introducing us not only to the sometimes hard facts of life, but also to the current media milieu of callousness. Add to that the perverse ideas that pre-adolescents often have that "coolness" equals uncaringness, and you have a confused adult.
Life is really almost unbearable for far too many if they have no faith to lean on. Life has a way of directing all of us toward that realization, but why should we wait until, for instance, our loved ones die, until we decide to adopt faith into our lives?
By "faith" I mean belief in God, in a vast protective power who cares about us individually, who directs and guides us, and who lifts burdens from us.
Oh, yes, there are many who think that this would whittle down their own sense of autonomy, or feel they're too wise to believe in "fairytales", and who have stoically decided to trust in only what they know with their ow senses.
And yet, studes have proven that those fortunate souls who believe in something or someone larger than ourselves are not only happier, but they are healthier!
Believing has benefits!
So, why not dredge up your childhood suspension of doubt, and allow yourself the pleasure of assuming that "someone up there likes me" again?
Really, you have nothing to lose, and so much to gain.
Think of the simple flowers, about how they turn their faces to the sun on its' arising, or the way the birds sing in homage. Do they ponder the veracity of their motives, or question their degree of self-reliance? No. They simply believe that the sun shines out of beneficence, and they gleefully bask themselves in it, possibly even believing they've participated in calling the sun forth by their love of the sun's rays!
It's not a bad way to be, is it? Even if we just assume that something has caused the universe to create or to cause the wonderful world we all-too-often take for granted - the lovely aspets of the natural places on our frail planet - and just enjoy being one of its' lifeforms, unquestioning, merely gratefully accepting its' grace - wouldn't that be superior to being, as too many people are, immersed in exclusionary and critical thoughts about life's details, rather than enjoying its' bounties?
Other species easily and thankfully revel in the pleasurable aspects of their lives, like the seabirds who line up, facing the sunset every evening in homage, or like the fish who play in the waves, surfing them, or like our fellow primates who adore racing through the treetops, from branch to branch, just for the fun of it!
What have you done today that was joyous? Nothing yet? Then, plan something now!
And while you're enjoying your life, in a natural setting, stop, look, and listen - do you feel it? The Great Spirit, or whatever name you wish to use - the Vibrational All - God - is very apparent.
Then, it's easy to believe!
