As a spiritual-futurist, I interpret current events in light of possible macro-universal forces at play leading up to 2012, but not limited to it.
I think few would disagree that God, the one who create ALL this is (which includes you and me) has a nature or set characteristics. Exactly what those characteristics are vary all over the place. But, here's where I want to go. To KNOW GOD is to know ourselves and who we are. Since we, the created creatures, came from the Creator, we are of him and thus like him.
Is it any wonder then that Genesis says that we've been created in his image?
A major problem though is that we humanoids judge, form opinions, and understand according to what we SEE. We see what we have been TAUGHT to see. If you're hearing what your're reading, you get the point that we must UNLEARN before we can judge or comprehend rightly. Who really wants to start out by admitting that "I know I don't know"? Being that realistic and humble is really hard for one who's been steeped in any kind of religion for very long.
We're simply afraid to let go- of most anything religious.
We've been told and thus we believe that what we believe is "orthodox" and anything to the contrary, or anything not currently known is unorthodox- probably borderline heresy. That's nothing more than corporate ego speak. The "rod of discipline" to keep people in their doctrinal boxes is the fear that to step out will bring a curse from God. That in itself tells me "they" don't know God.
We must venture into the liminal space where the Spirit of God-Consciousness is allowed to direct us. This doesn't mean that one abandons their denomination or local assembly; rather, they allow it to take the place it should and not be idolized. Not even Jesus allowed that of Himself. Knowing God takes both a community (where we work out and experiment with our thoughts) and an intimacy with God that will most often run amuck regional religious doctrines.
Plato got part of it right. "Know thyself" he said. But to do that one must first know God!
