Terrorism in the Name of Relegion

TERRORISM IN THE NAME OF RELIGION

Can anybody; will be able to define who a terrorist is?  And on what basis he has been categorized to this different sect termed “terrorist”. Who has given us the authoritative power to symbolize an individual as terrorist? Part III of our Indian constitution has granted certain fundamental rights to every single individual. Are we not violating that single individual’s fundamental rights by giving him a new name? Can’t it be defamation to him? Well it can’t, because he is a terrorist and a terrorist doesn’t possess any fundamental rights, do they? Do terrorist follow any particular religion?

These are some of the fundamental question in front of us. But what are the probable solutions to these fundamental questions.

Society has got some ever ready typical answers when you ask them a simple question like this “what is terrorism” and the most feasible    answer will be – terrorism is a despicable act carried out by despicable people. People with extremist point of view would probably add that terrorist should be wiped off the face of this planet. But can the answer be as simple as it sounds like- a person obviously has some good reason for blowing up hundreds of people with him.

Is it our utmost necessity to always tie a bond between terrorism and religion? When, both are completely different from each other. Why media always have to stress upon only on one religion (Islam) when ever any terrorist activities popped up in our country. Why it is always has been termed as “Islamic terrorism”. Are we not committing any fundamental mistake by communalizing terrorism in the name of religion?

Why After every single bomb blast the innocent Muslims are beleaguered, when they are completely unaware of that unfortunate incident. In every blast, media the fourth estate behaves like the fourth mistake. The needle of suspension automatically swing towards Muslim whether it is a Mecca masjid blast or Malegaon blast in which devout Muslims were specifically targeted inside their mosques. Every time there is a blast Muslims find themselves in no man’s land. They are caught in the crossfire between intelligence agencies and terrorist activities.

Everybody knows India is a sovereign, socialist, secular and democratic republic – well that’s what our preamble says. Secularism signifies that the government has no religion of its own, but respects all religions equally, and that choice of religion does not disqualify its citizens on any basis.  Then why we are discriminating people on the basis of religion, when we have right to freedom of religion as fundamental rights guaranteed by our constitution. There is always been a gap between theory and practice. Indian constitution is no doubt the best in the world; if so then why the word ‘secular’ was not added until 1975 i.e. during emergency. If it were truly implemented India would have been an ideal country to live in especially for minorities, both in terms of religion as well as linguistic. But the irony is sometimes we tend to forget that India believes in secularism and indulge ourselves into some big fat political game where some parties tried hard to link terror with certain religion so as to use certain communities as vote banks and thus we set our mind into a common belief, it is the Muslim who are the masterminds behind any terrorist activities.

Every religion has had its zealots. A zealot is not a religious person even if they are a person of that cloth for that religion. The word Islam means submission or total surrender of oneself to God or Allah. The oxford dictionary defines terrorism as the act of using violence and intimidation in the pursuit of political aims. So the very use of these two words together is fundamentally and factually wrong. Surely the lord doesn’t want his own creation to hate, fight and kill each other. But unfortunately this is the sad truth of today. We fight in the name of religion, which we practice according to our convenience. We don’t know our religion well and we question the faith and beliefs of others.

Do actually terrorism follows any particular religion? According to my opinion terrorism have no religion. They are infidels, criminals, traitors and this is what the politicians and media along with communal forces needs to be understood. In fact they fuel the flames of communal divide with false propaganda to divide us in the name of religion. There has to be justice for all and not just for the privileged one. The authorities have to remove the glasses of biasness and then approach terrorism, punish the perpetrators and not blame any particular community. They should look at all other incidents which has the hands of the other communal forces too.

Thus the root of terrorism not lies in religion or region but in the socio economic condition and background of these people. The primary reason, today, for people becoming terrorists is economic and social oppression. These people have been terribly oppressed and they live in pathetic conditions, due to the ‘kindness’ and ‘gratitude’ of the so called developed first world countries. They are not allowed for public hearing.  They find that the last option they are left with to attract attention to their case is ‘terrorism’. Therefore the question is not as easy as it sounds like. We must ask ourselves why people go to the extent of crashing a Boeing into a skyscraper killing thousands of people along with themselves, to defend their cause. It is an earnest request to all people to think of the situation in which these oppressed people go beyond their limits to become terrorists.

Terrorism doesnot have any religion but terrorism in the name of religion is what which is not acceptible to the society. none of the religion teach us to murder innocent people. friend, I would like to bring into ur memory the destructions caused by the muslim terrorist organisations the so called Jihad's and lashker e toiba. Without any evidences none of the nations will claim that the attackers were Muslims. i would like to remember u that the mumbai terrorist attackers reached India dressed up as Hindu's. When one was caught alive we were able to reveal that they were muslim's. None of the religion is free from terrorists. Take the examples of different terrorist attacks in the world and see who was responsible for it. Over indulgence in Religion, deprivation from authority, poverty are the root cause for most of the terrorist attacks. Those people who kills many in the name of religion is not worthy to be called as religious since none of the religion asks the followers to kill others.

Elections places the power in the hands of the people. They are the judge. In their hands is the power to choose their leaders. This practically squeezes out the best options from the leader in governace or he is voted out. Africans in this matter have little option. The world for decades have sent food aid. Good!, how about credible elections? African leaders must decide to let their own people decide who rules.

Leadership in Nigeria: the way forward

By: Israel Okunwaye | 01/12/2009
The right leadership in Nigeria is crucial to development. President Umaru Musa Yar'adua has been struggling with his health for many years now, rather than take a break to rest from the strain of leadership, sycophants around him are urging him on, to his death. The 1999 constitution of Nigeria provides a leeway to this crises. The true voices must not keep silent. If we are honest to ourselves and acknowledge that Nigeria needs help, perhaps we are on the way to recovery.
