One of the sad facts of running a business is that, from time to time, you may be subjected to scam calls. Here are some to be aware of:
1) the scammer pretends to be a representative from the local police or fire brigade. They ask for a contribution for some event they are putting on (say, charity football match).
Because you don't think anyone would impersonate the police, you pay the money. Beware!
Another business scam is when someone phones up and pretends to be from a children's charity (say, terminal cancer charity), and asks you to buy advertising space in their local magazine - or says that you previously agreed to pay and they are 'just checking everything is still OK'.
Again, beware - this is more often than not a scam. Be on your guard.
