You have probably heard of one of the most common network marketing lead generation techniques which is: create a list of 100 people that you know, even if they are only acquaintances. Once you have created your list, you are supposed to contact everyone on it and let them know about your business. There are some downsides to using these prospect lists and a better way to go about them.
Why These Lists Don't Work Well
The main problem with these lists is that the people you place on them are probably comprised of mostly family and friends. This means that they will either put up with listening to you because they love you or they will do their best to avoid you so they won't have to listen to your sales pitch. One question to ask yourself is why start with family and friends in the first place? Often they are not interested to begin with.
How to Create an Effective Prospects List
A better way to utilize the list is to create your list of as many people as you know and then begin removing the people you know aren't a good fit for your business. These types of folks would be the unmotivated, closed-minded, lazy, and are simply happy where they currently are in life. They probably have bad attitudes and are not goal oriented.
Once you have cleaned up your list, you should be left with people who you would enjoy working with. These individuals typically want more out of life, they like learning about new opportunities, and are highly motivated. These are the people you want to present your business to. After all, one of the big benefits of being a network marketer is getting to choose who you want to work with. Wouldn't you want highly motivated, hard working individuals on your team?
