The most important first step is finding a company or opportunity that allows you to get started with a minimum of investment. Of course they all have to let you come in as a distributor for a small amount, but all you have is the right to distribute, we probably need a little more than that. Let’s look for a company where we don’t have to purchase a bunch of product to personally distribute, let a carrier, UPS, FedEx, USPS, deliver it for you. You don’t want to have to build shelves in the garage or basement and stock them full in order to be in business.
Second, make sure the company you are looking at offers a way to make immediate income! None of this, “well, you keep working hard and someday you will make a good income at this.” All the while you are getting deeper in debt having to buy a bunch of flyers, cds, magazines, and go to training conferences in some other city, which of course you have to pay for.
By immediate income I mean, retail profit and sponsoring bonuses. You should be able to make the difference between your wholesale cost and the retail price your customers pay, and get that at least once a month, but preferably once a week. This will help offset your own product as all companies will require that you purchase some product in order to qualify for income. After all, they are in business to sell and move their product, not just be a “good guy” for you. The best ones will also allow some of the cost of your retail customers purchase to qualify as part of your monthly requirement so you can purchase less if you need to. If you are single you can only use so much of anything.
