Aliens and the Food Chain

The only thing that would instantly create peace on earth is aliens from another world descending upon us. Pretty deep stuff, but to put it mildly, we'd panic so much there'd be no more fighting among ourselves.

Instead, we'd cling together and fight for survival, at least until we know what we're dealing with, who they are, what they're capable of and, most importantly, whether they like us. An alien approach is the one thing guaranteed to create peace among humans.

When you think about it, most of the movies from recent years aren't that far fetched. It doesn't take much intelligence to know that there is other life out there, somewhere in one of the 200 billion or so other galaxies. The law of probability says there are probably millions of other planets out there sustaining life, possibly humans, and other creatures, as well as plants and oceans and deserts.

Right now, we're top of the food chain, but nothing on this planet, or any other planet, stays the same forever. We're constantly evolving, but because we're living the changes minute by minute, they're almost invisible to the human eye.

There will come a time when something occurs that will push us either further down the food chain or away from this planet altogether to make way for a new species. Dinosaurs had their time at the top and we're currently number one. Eventually there will be something else. How that will affect our fate, only time will tell, but lets hope it involves us being carted off elsewhere, to some other distant planet where we can start afresh.

Now for the worst case scenario. Aaargh, it doesn't bear thinking about but I'm going to steady my guts and go there anyway. Imagine if you will a life form far, far superior to us, way more advanced in every way, including technology, intelligence, everything. Not only are they more superior but they're also hungry and they're able to reach us in the blink of an eye (supersonic spacecraft and all that).

They decide to make earth their home and we are pushed into second place. Now imagine the worst, worst, worst case scenario. There are no vegetarian aliens - at all. The only thing that will satisfy their hunger is human. Now we're getting close to imagining how the poor old cow feels.
