Dr. Mark D. Yates the British American security expert and security consultant from www.asecurityonestopshop.com suggests that Jacqui Smith the British Home Secretary has finally done something British Police Forces have steered away from for years. She has finally accepted that private security companies and their staff can supplement the police, military and intelligence services in the fight against domestic terrorism. She even goes one step further by announcing in her Contest 2 terrorist strategy that it is the duty of every UK citizen to aid this war against terrorism.
Every International security consultant will tell you that in law enforcement and security aspects we are generally 10 to 15 years behind America. It was actually over 15 years ago that US law enforcement agencies and government intelligence agencies decided to work very closely with private security agencies and individual private sector security consultants to combat crime. In the UK our police forces retained a somewhat elitist status and wrongly believed that private security companies were not worthy of close co-operation. As ludicrous as it seems there has always been a definitive ‘line in the sand’ between UK polices forces and security companies.
To be fair the UK private security industry was never known for being squeaky clean and police forces were right to want to remain at arms length from them, especially as the security industry was unregulated and full of criminals and cowboys. However things have changed for the better in the UK security industry during the last 10 years. The government introduced security staff licensing through the SIA. The SIA stance has borne fruit and they have achieved great successes in cleaning up the security industry.
Licensing for security and close protection operatives and for an individual security consultant has been mandatory in most states of the USA for many years. It’s a fantastic confidence boost for the UK security industry for Jacqui Smith to include the word security in the same sentence as Police and intelligence agencies tackling the terrorist threat.
Dr. Mark D. Yates suggest that every security consultant will welcome ‘Contest 2’, the British government’s new terrorist strategy which aims to train 60,000 shopping complex and shop managers to assist in identifying and ultimately countering threats from domestic terrorism.
Dr. Mark Yates a security consultant from "A Security One Stop Shop" suggests that the Home Secretary’s verbal comments that, "in relation to Contest 2’ a series of plots had been successfully thwarted.
We've been successful in countering terror," she said. "We've foiled more than a dozen plots. For example, we've brought more than 200 people to justice before our courts. We need to keep thinking about the way the threat is developing and we need to keep evolving the way which we are dealing with that."
After unveiling the new government ‘Contest 2’ anti terrorist strategy Jacqui Smith announced the widest range of people need to be enlisted to help identify threat of terrorist attacks and to be prepared in advance for how to deal with the immediate aftermath of a terrorist atrocity.
Dr. Mark D. Yates the British American security Expert advises that every security consultant from Lands End to John O’Groats will welcome the Home Secretaries statement that, "We can't tackle terrorism simply from Whitehall."
Finally enlisting the direct aid of, and training members of the public under the Contest 2 terrorist strategy will place an additional 60,000 terrorist aware observers into industry sectors not typically covered by trained personnel.
Dr. Mark D. Yates the British American security Expert further advises, we live in troubled times. Not only are the terrorist threats from Islamic extremists ever-present, but the recent resurgence of IRA activity against British soldiers and RUC police officer is a clue that a return to sectarian terrorism could be a whisker away.
