Some party goods for planning are not used until other phases of the planning process for a party are completed. With so many party themes to select from, the first stage of planning a party would be to identify the theme and use party goods for planning that event, even if the theme seems extreme. Some parties are held to celebrate birthdays but the theme of the party might require party hosts to gain access to party goods that are oversized and difficult to manage alone.

The party goods for planning this party theme might require the party host to hire a large truck to deliver a small castle to a municipal park on a hot summer's day. For the castle to be erected in a public space, the party host might have to obtain a permit that would be good for a certain day. Party goods for planning might also include the additional costs of weights to keep the building in place. The costs of party goods for planning will be outweighed by the look of surprise on a fairy princess who got the castle of her dreams for friends to play in on her special day.

Other party themes will require party goods for planning a stylish but elegant event at night. Some birthday parties are held at skating rinks, and the party goods for planning such event might be useful if cake and ice cream will be served during the evening. The party goods for planning a skate party might require the parents to rent out a space for guests to sing Happy Birthday, and the party rules for the skating establishment might require the room to be cleaned up afterward.

To control the cost of such parties, many party hosts use invitations to determine the number of people that are interested in attending the festive event. The party goods for planning large parties might require RSVP cards to be sent along with the invitation so that the party host has documented proof of all that will definitely attend. Extra guests would incur more charges but all would be welcomed. Party goods for planning are used primarily to give party hosts cost options that are primarily under their control.

The party goods for planning a costume party could run up cost considerably if the party host is responsible for what each guest will wear. The party princess might decide to leave costume choices up to guests, and use charts and graphs to determine where certain damsels in distress will be seated. Some knights in shining armor might compete with others that are dressed just like them, but the maiden would always know that all costumed guests were in attendance to celebrate a very special day.

The party goods for planning a 25th wedding anniversary might require party hosts to contact people from a parents past. Party hosts could use address books and organizers to keep track of all people contacted for the event. The party goods needed to decorate the room might require a ladder and some tape, because the party hosts for such events will always want to hang a banner over the happy couple that documents the milestone that they have reached together. Those banners will be nice souvenirs that the couple will treasure for the next 25 years.
