Sorano è un caratteristico paesino della Maremma Toscana, un gioiello medievale di arte e storia, dove trovare monumenti assolutamente splendidi ed affascinanti nel loro insieme e scoprire un centro abitato veramente particolare, capace di affascinare con la sua storia e sorprendere per la grande magia delle sue leggende e dei suoi miti.
Il paese pone le sue origini nel primo perido medievale, sotto la dominazione della potente famiglia degli Aldobrandeschi, che a quel tempo dominava gran parte dei territori della Toscana del sud, spingendosi dal comprensorio amiatino fino alla costa tirrenica, gestendo un territorio vasto ed importante, successivamente il controllo della città venne esercitato dalla famiglia dei Conti Orsini, che qui ebbe una delle sue residenze ufficiali, ma anche dalla Repubblica di Siena, dalla città di Orvieto e dal Granducato di Toscana, venendo posta sotto il potere della casata fiorentina De'Medici.
I monumenti che si potranno ammirare a Sorano, sono assolutamente numerosi e tutti incredibilmente interessanti, testimoni di particolari eventi, momenti storici ed epoche, estremamente particolari ed unici nel loro genere.
Particolarmente bella è la Fortezza Orsini, una costruzione che, risalente all'Alto Medioevo, svolse l'originaria funzione di Residenza della famiglia Aldobrandeschi, per passare poi, alcuni decenni dopo, nelle mani dei Conti Orsini, che la ampliarono e la destinarono a loro residenza ufficiale, prima del loro trasferimento nella vicina cittadina di Pitigliano, ma anche il Masso Leopoldino, fortezza di tipo militare che, costruita nei primi anni del 1700, oggi domina, sul lato opposto della fortezza, il paese di Sorano, il Palazzo Comitale, che ebbe il ruolo di ospitare la famiglia Orsini prima del trasferimento alla residenza ufficiale, la Chiesa Collegiata di San Niccolò, ricca di affreschi, dipinti ed opere d'arte di vario genere, le due porte di accesso alla città fortificata, Porta di Sopra e Porta dei Merli, e per terminare, la Chiesa di Santa Maria del Borgo, postaappena fuori il centro abitato.
