The official name of this herbal home remedy is known as Melissa officinalis. It is a name that is derived due to the link between the bees and lemon balm. In greek, melissa is known as the honey bee. In fact, many herbalists have found that lemon balm has many of the same properties as royal jelly and honey. Lemon balm is described as a cold, dry, slightly bitter, and sour herbal home remedy by traditional herbalists. It contains many different substances, including polyphenols, tannins, flavonoids, volatile oils, and rosmarinic acid. Herbalists like using the essential oils made from its leaves. Hence, any time when you feel the need to calm down and feel the heat getting into you, drink a cup of lemon balm tea. For great healing benefits, harvesting this herb should be done right before flowering.
