Will you call mental instability a precursor of getting addicted to drugs? Or mental unhealthiness is an aftermath of drug addiction -which one will you go for?

Well let's not go into this debate that what results from what. Instead it is better to understand what is dual diagnosis and how is it related to drug addiction. Precisely the Medical Science refers to the dual diagnosis as an illness where the person is both mentally unsound and a drug addict. In either case whether you are a drug addict or a victim of dual diagnosis, your final refuge is a drug rehabilitation center. This is the right locale to provide you with right treatment.

There are several connections to bring addiction and dual diagnosis together. What are they?

There is genetic link in both these problems be it drug addiction or mental sickness leading to dual diagnosis. Even alcoholism fall under this category. It has been mostly found that if the father or the grandfather was a drunk, the chances are higher that the next generation can follow the same tract.

All these three problems can be defined in terms of mental unhealthiness but also require full physical care and treatment to get cured. To a greater extent these pop up due to spiritual and emotional crisis.

There are specific orientations of treatment to come out of these unstable and unhealthy conditions. Normal procedure of treatment in a general hospital won't be feasible to give proper healing to such patients. Drug rehab centers have been exclusively designed to set them right on normal track.

Isolation and suffering from lonesomeness are vital causes of these problems. Mostly it has been found out that men and women who are deserted and discarded from family and social life due to some reason become acute victims of dual diagnosis.

Recovery process in either of these problems takes in stepwise form. You just can't hurry for a dose of pills and say that the person suffering from dual diagnosis or drug addiction is completely cured. It is very much time tested. You will have to hold immense patience and treat the patient with utmost care.

The flip side of the whole treatment for mental instability and addiction to drugs or alcohol can get diluted if they relapse. The probability can't be ignored. So once the patient is left from the rehab center, it is the responsibility of friends and family to support the person in every possible way so that there remains no chance for him to get distracted. The individual should also put effort in this process and try to avoid all possible nuances. The door to the rehab center is always open to guide such people.
