Herbal Home Remedies Right From Your Kitchen

I learned about many forgotten secrets about herbal home remedies through conversations with my grandmother. I remember my late afternoon chats with her over tea. She said that herbs have been used for many thousand years to treat a variety of health conditions. But many secrets about their use for healing have been lost because they have never been documented.

My grandmother assured me that I do not have to look too far to look for many of these herbs. There are enough herbal home remedies that can come right out of my kitchen if I just make an effort to learn about them.

Since these conversations, I have gone on to include many of these herbs in my regular meals, just so that I can reap the benefits by consuming them. If you would like to do the same, here are a couple of herbal home remedies that you can use to treat various health ailments as well:

1. Garlic is a herbal remedy that I am sure you can find in your kitchen. While you may have used garlic to add a distinct taste to your food, it has a much more powerful use. Garlic is in fact, one of the best herbal home remedies around as it can be used as an antibiotic in your body. Garlic contains alliin, which is an antioxidant. When you crush or chop garlic cloves up, the alliin converts to allicin, which is an enzyme. These enzymes help to stimulate cellular activity required to ward off an infection.

2. You probably use the rosemary herb to flavor your chicken or beef. But do you know that this herb also contains healing properties? Rosemary can be used as a stimulant and mild analgesic. It is also useful for those who experience frequent headaches and poor blood circulation.

3. Cranberry juice is a drink that I am sure you have had before many times. It is no ordinary drink, however. Cranberry is effective in cases of urinary tract infections. It prevents the multiplication of bacteria by disallowing them from sticking to the walls of your bladder.

4. You probably would have used lemongrass as an ingredient in Asian cooking. According to folk lore, as told by my grandmother, the lemongrass is often used because it has antibacterial, antifungal and fever reducing properties. In addition, in Brazil, lemongrass is a popular herbal medicine for treating nervous disorders and stomach problems.

The lemongrass is also reportedly effective for the following conditions: stomach upsets, gas, bowel disorders, vomiting, fever, acne and pain. Try flavoring your tea with this herb the next time you have a bad tummy ache and see if it helps!
