Several months ago, I began writing this series of articles on writing. It was birthed through several people, on the same day, asking me how I started this writing thing. They had a cousin who wrote poetry or remembered writing in high school. One woman had a notebook stashed in the back of a closet, full of journaling from her teenage years. With this in mind, I took what I had learned and put it on paper in hopes that it would help someone.
Each article was a challenge, as I tried to put my limited knowledge and experience on paper to help another. These articles helped me, reminding me of what I have done and how far I have come.
Now it is time to end the series. I have procrastinated, not sure how to bring it to completion. We have looked over every aspect that I could think of that might affect a beginning writer. What is left?
It was obvious. Just write.
What? But that seems so simple. At some point in this journey, we all have to “just” write. Whether we are making any money, selling anything or seeing results, it doesn’t matter. Writing has to be something that is in us, something deeper than the money or fame. It has to be who we are.
I have realized that there are stories inside of me, hundreds of stories, all clamoring to be released. Only I have the power to sit down, take a deep breath and let them go.
Writing outlines and ideas down are good but I need to take those, develop them and make them the best they can be. Persevering will eventually lead to publication. This could be a million dollar best seller or free articles on article websites that touch one life. Your writing could make one person better than they were the day before. Your story could give someone the hope to live another day.
Will you release the stories, the articles and the hope? Or will you give into fear of the unknown and failure to keep them inside, to die with you?
Set your writing free. Just write. Make a difference. Live. Write.
