The vicious circle of drug addiction leaves its effects not only on the addict but also on everyone surrounding him. Thus whenever a rehabilitation program is chalked out, the whole family of the person must also be taken into consideration. The family component calls for a larger attention to conduct the treatment procedure in a healthier way.

Family as a role model

It is indeed an unfortunate situation if a member of the family by some means gets deviated into a wrong track. The responsibility lies in the family's part also to support the member in every possible way so that he can return back and lead the life as should be.

In case of drug addiction and especially alcoholism the hereditary factor plays a significant role. Medical Science have researched and detected that one of the biggest causes of addiction to illicit substances has a close association with gene. The conclusiveness of this figuration thus brings in the family in the picture to pay a dominant role and that is obviously in the sphere of treatment too.

Family members do play the role model for a each and every individual. You really cannot walk out of this structure to lead an isolated life in the society. As nowadays the concept of fragmentation and separation among the family members has increased to such a great extent that relationship itself has taken a very fragile shape. In this regard too the family becomes a dominant factor in shaping the lifestyle of a person.

All these reasons together put in the issue of family as a significant factor in the drug rehabilitation process. And a good rehab program will always keep the family component in the priority list to design the treatment program.

Counseling as a whole

In Maryland and Florida drug rehabs the counseling of the family members apart from the counseling of the patient is conducted separately. The family is given importance in order to support the life of the drug addict during the post-treatment days. How to handle the situation so that the tendency of the patient to relapse can be reduced? The family has to take care of these things.

The family should in no way reject or show indifference to the person who has gone wrong in some way. A cooperative attitude must be developed in each and every member of the family to make the addict person realize that he was ill but he can too get well and lead a healthy and secured life. The sense of love, care and sharing is promoted through any drug rehab program. The family is also included.
