Nursing Home Abuse: The Crime of the Cold Hearted

Our society is not set up to allow for a family's chronic care of an elderly family member. When the time comes to place family members in nursing homes, we pray that we are making good decisions on their behalf, as we all understand the risks of abuse, neglect, and the health effects of medical malpractice that many of the nation's elderly are forced to endure.

Nursing home abuse and nursing home neglect are not always readily noticeable. The victims are typically too vulnerable to speak up, and often they feel as though speaking up presents an additional burden on family members. They already feel as though they are burdening those they love.

If you even have just a gnawing suspicion of abuse or neglect, it is prudent to contact a nursing home abuse lawyer immediately. By presenting him with your suspicions, a lawyer can assist you in determining whether or not there is in fact a case of abuse or neglect in the situation you are presenting.

Abuse and neglect is a devastating form of malpractice inflicted on the elderly, typically because of lack of patience by an attendant, or the simple understanding that many people who reside in nursing homes have nowhere else to turn for their daily care requirements.

It takes an adequate attorney to help determine whether abuse or neglect is prevalent in any given circumstance. The elderly tend to bruise easily and signs if abuse can be covered up with stories about how someone grabbed the patient's arm to prevent a fall or the patient caused the injury to themselves, either accidentally or intentionally.

Nursing home neglect can be equally as difficult to prove, despite the woeful medical malpractice that it entails. Patients found sitting in soiled clothing can be blamed for going to the bathroom every ten minutes, and doctoring a chart is really not that difficult. An attorney can help explain the parameters for acknowledging nursing home neglect.

In our increasingly aware society, abuse and neglect are becoming easier to spot and amend as those facilities that are completely innocent of abuse are becoming extraordinarily meticulous about patient care.

Nursing home neglect isn't quite as easy to determine, but some signs are impossible to miss such as drastic weight gain or unclean patients who haven't been bathed in days. A lucid patient can help determine the conditions of the nursing home or if there is any neglect simply by displaying a natural demeanor around visitors. A sudden loss of interest in life can indicate nursing home neglect.

Nursing home abuse and nursing home neglect are disgusting examples of medical malpractice, and the offenders should be held accountable to the fullest extent permitted by law.
