Goodwill will take your old, beat-up…cars

When I first started thinking about donating my car to charity, there was no guarantee that my old ride would even be accepted by the people at Goodwill Industries -- or so I thought. After all, I wasn’t giving them my brand new ride. They would be getting, instead, the old car that had been nothing but dead weight in my driveway. What I have come to realize is that Goodwill Industries chapters all over Washington, D.C. are searching for old cars as well.

This made it easy for me to donate my car to charity, even though it is not in the best shape right now. What the folks at Goodwill want to get across is that they will take just about anything and try to get maximum value for it. They have stressed recently that you will get much more money for something newer and nicer, but simply having an older ride does not disqualify you from this type of community help effort.

What happens when I donate my car to charity, at least according to them, is that it will be marketed to interested buyers. This is a positive thing for me because it takes all of the work out of my hands. I might have wanted to sell my ride, but who has the time and energy to do that? This is what Goodwill Industries is advertising to would-be car donors. This is why I will donate my car to charity, and it was a huge sticking point.

There are plenty of reasons to hold off and keep your car for yourself. Just know that Goodwill is doing everything that they can to take the work out of your hands when you donate a car to charity. This is why I chose to donate my car to charity, and I’ve been pleased with the decision. Goodwill in the D.C. area is doing great things with the money that they gain from donated vehicles, and they have tried to stress the positive impact that these sorts of donations have had on the community at large.
