Spare Change Makes Cents for Local Non-profits as Cirelli Marketplace Launches “round Up” Program in Conjunction With the United Way

DATELINE: MIDDLEBOROUGH, MA...

Cirelli Marketplace in Middleborough, MA is launching a community based Round Up program, allowing customers to “Round Up” their purchases to the next whole dollar amount for the benefit of local non-profits, providing a simple way to “give back” to their community.

John Santos, general manager of Cirelli Marketplace, explains the concept, “The Round Up program has a dual purpose — to provide contributions for area non-profits AND educate members of the community about the mission and services of these vital community resources. With the help of the United Way of Greater Plymouth County, a different non-profit recipient will be chosen each month and the organization will be invited to spend time at the Marketplace on Saturdays, providing information about their organization and goals.”

According to Dennis Carman, United Way of Greater Plymouth County President & CEO, “It is rare and therefore so appreciated that a company like Cirelli’s would take such an active role in supporting needed services in our community”.

The Old Colony YMCA, with branches in Brockton, East Bridgewater, Easton, Middleborough, and Taunton, will be the first non-profit participant in the Round Up program, receiving rounded up donations for the month of October. The Old Colony YMCA is one of the largest human service providers in Southeastern Massachusetts, serving 31 communities with programs for all ages and abilities. Programs include fitness, after-school enrichment, summer camps, youth residential treatment, senior wellness and more.

Cirelli Marketplace has upgraded their cash register software, allowing customers to donate their change in one easy seamless transaction if they wish to participate. For example, if a customer’s purchase totals $54.38, and they chose to participate in the Round Up Program, their total would be rounded up to $55.00, with the additional $.62 donated to the designated non-profit for the month. Round Up contributions will be tallied at the end of each month and the United Way will coordinate the disbursement of the funds to that month’s beneficiary.

During the month of October, courtesy of the Old Colony YMCA, Cirelli Marketplace customers will also be invited to participate in a drawing for a free 3-month membership to the Old Colony YMCA. In addition, Old Colony YMCA staffers will be on hand at Cirelli Marketplace on Saturdays during October to answer questions about the Y and the services it provides to area communities.
