Diets That Work for You!

People today are fixated on diets, and all have their own personal reasons to show for. Some feel they are at an unhealthy weight level, and need to pay closer attention to their food consumption and exercise habits, while others, like many celebrities, are obsessed with their appearance and think they have to look thin to be fascinating and attractive. Their drive often goes too far, providing a bad example for teenagers, who may get the impression that anorexia is cool, which it is not!

On the other hand, there is nothing wrong with a deep commitment if the dieter’s reasons are valid, which may be the case for a number of them. These people have no choice but to watch the scale, because if they don’t the excess weight will affect their health badly and may even kill them. People who are at risk for, or suffer from ailments such as heart disease, diabetes, high blood pressure, stroke, osteoarthritis, and some forms of cancer need to monitor their food intake closely and usually will also have to incorporate a suitable exercise program.

Dieticians, physicians and any weight management experts are trained professionals who should be able to offer you a comfortable and healthy diet plan, perfected just for you, your food preferences and your goals. With the amount of diets out there to choose from that should not be a problem. Take for example the low GI diet, which focuses on low Glycemic Index foods, such as most fruits and vegetables, grainy breads, pasta, legumes, milk, and products extremely low in carbohydrates (fish, eggs, meat, nuts, oils). Low GI foods discharge glucose more slowly, providing a more sustainable energy release, which will help reduce cravings for fattening sweets and high processed, greasy foods.

A high protein diet is often recommended to help build muscle or lose fat, while increasing satiety levels which will then act as appetite suppressants, or remove the desire to overeat. This meal plan is rich in protein sources such as chicken, turkey, lean meats and beef, fish, and egg whites. Weight Watchers, another favourite, is a weight loss program that provides not only dietary advice, but also personal support and motivation. It is true, without the desire to lose weight you will be fighting a losing battle.

For those individuals totally abstaining from meat, there is a vegetarian diet plan, and if the weight loss has to occur fast the Lemon Detox Diet has definitely proven to be effective, rising steadily in popularity, especially among the rich and famous. If you prefer vegetables, the cabbage soup diet lasts seven days and has already demonstrated repeatedly to be a great kick-start for a more moderate, long-term diet.

A healthy diet is one that is constructed with the intent of improving or maintaining optimal health. There are only few that will not incorporate an exercise routine, as well as monitoring tools, in their weight management programs. Many diets will therefore suggest using Body Mass Index (BMI) calculators, exercise calorie counters, heart rate monitors, meal builders and support groups.

Watching carbohydrates, counting proteins and calories, measuring ingredients in each meal, filling out charts and sometimes even dealing with hunger pains, cravings, fatigue, moodiness, depression, poor memory, and poor sleep can be difficult and confusing! No wonder dieters become frustrated, find the preparations too time consuming and finally give up.

The key to a successful diet is to be well informed, have a positive attitude, willingness to alter your lifestyle slightly, and being able to participate in a convenient and healthy program based on your unique diet profile and weight loss goals. This includes a nutritional, well-balanced management plan that is easy to follow and a simple, enjoyable exercise routine.
