Easy Tips to Lose Weight

Starting a diet does not have to be a complete change in the food you eat, but by using these easy tips to lose weight you can get started the next time you go to the grocery.  I’ve met many people who think reduced fat foods are going to taste awful, but in reality many can be very difficult to tell from the original.  In this article I’ve compiled some suggestions on how to start making healthy substitutions in your diet.

Try turkey or a veggie substitution instead of the pork or beef version.  I’ve been doing this for years and the alternatives are just as tasty with less than half the calories and fat, sometimes far less.  They make sausage, bacon, burgers, pepperoni, and so many others.

Drop the whole milk.  Switch to 2%, 1%, or ideally skim milk.  I’ve been drinking skim for a long time to and now I really dislike the fat in the others, it’s like I’m drinking coffee creamer.  There is enough fat in everyday food that having it in your beverage is unnecessary.

Switch to diet soda or cut out soda if you don’t like the artificial sweetener.  Let’s say you drink 5-6 12 ounce cans a day, that can be anywhere between 400 and 700 calories.  That is significant portion of your calories for the day, and it is all sugar.  Just cut out soda and you will see some weight lost.

Eat salsa instead of other fatty dips or spreads.  First off salsa is extra delicious and comes in about a million different varieties.  Most types have no fat, low calories and vitamins.  Next time you are at the store compare a container of French onion dip to some salsa.  Salsa is the clear winner.

Deep frying foods can turn something healthy into something much worse.  Take a chicken breast for example, it’s trying to be good for you really it is, but all that oil just won’t allow it.  Instead that that same piece with some lemon juice, garlic, and black pepper, bake it and now it’s still tasty as well as good for you.

If you buy canned produce make sure you check the label first.  Many of the vegetables have salt added to them and many of the fruits have additional sugar.  When in doubt buy either fresh or frozen produce.  Frozen produce can be just as beneficial as fresh with the added bonus of a longer shelf life.  If you buy canned tuna be sure to get the kind backed in water not oils, as the oil adds plenty of extra fat and calories that are unnecessary.

These are just a few substitutions you can use in your diet to replace some foods that are not so good for you.  Remember don’t change everything at once, find substitutions you really do like, and then expand to new ones.  Start using these easy tips to lose weight and your body will thank you for it down the road.
