Our diet is an essential factor for the formation of our body. It is clearly mentioned in an Ayurvedic classic 'Charak Samhita' that consuming improper diet in improper way is the main cause of 'Disease'.

Time of consuming food: A person should take meal only when he feels hungry. Lunch should be taken early between 12 and 1P.M. this coincides with the peak Pitta period, Pitta is responsible for the digestion. Ayurveda recommends that the lunch should be the largest meal of the day. The supper should be lesser and lighter than lunch.

Sesame seeds are an important source of protein, vitamin E, magnesium, calcium and zinc. Sesame seeds can be added to a number of dishes to provide extra flavor and extra nutrition. Some people like to eat sesame seeds as snacks by themselves or within other meals. Sesame oil is high in monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fatty acids, making it a good alternative to oils containing saturated fats. Sesame oil is also good at soothing the nerves and the glands, and providing valuable oil to the skin.

Swimming, cycling, jogging, skiing, dancing, walking and dozens of other activities can help your heart. Whether it is included in a structured exercise program or just part of your daily routine, all physical activity adds up to a healthier heart.

How you eat your food is even more important than what you eat. Even foods, which normally cause greater imbalance, will be digested reasonable well if the proper rules are followed. Likewise, if you eat the correct foods in the wrong way, your digestion will be compromised and gas, indigestion and the formation of toxins will follow. If you follow these food habits and choose the correct foods then your digestion will be maximized and you will experience optimal digestion.

Knowing what a serving really looks like will help you to set limits. Some useful visuals to keep in mind: one serving of turkey measures about the size of a deck of cards (tip: white meat has less fat than dark); one serving of stuffing, mashed potatoes, or cranberry sauce looks like half a baseball.

Don't sweat it. If you're pressed for time, don't add to your stress. Divide your daily activity into small sessions. Take a 10-minute walk at lunch, another one after dinner; pull weeds for 10 or 15 minutes.

Do what feels good. Choose an activity you like. That way, you're more likely to stick with it. Try combining exercise with another activity: lift weights or do sit-ups while you're watching television; take a walk with your grandchild while you're babysitting.

Eat as much fiber as you can, which includes organic fruits and vegetables and brown rice. Some ideal detoxifying foods include cabbage, seaweed, beets, artichokes, broccoli and radishes.

Supplement your daily diet with vitamin C, which helps to produce glutathione, a compound found in the liver for eliminating toxins.

Many people think that juice, coffee, tea, soda, milk or alcohol count for your daily consumption of water. None of these can replace pure water, NONE. Most of these products actually dehydrate you. For example a cup of soda can take up to two cups or more of water to re-hydrate you.

Take along a big bottle of water. If in your car put bottles of water in your cooler bag. If your trip includes flying go through security first and then purchase a bottle of water for your flight. Drinking water when flying is especially important. The pressurized airline cabins cause dehydration, so drink lots of water to maintain a healthy level of hydration.

Is buying/eating organic food worth it, more healthy?
By: ElexaAnn | 19-12-2007
Does eating organic food mean that you are on a healthy diet?  I can't exactly figure out if it's worth it to spend the extra money for each item at the grocery store, just to make sure that everyone is organic.  And does organic mean healthy?  I heard that some people are finding bugs (that are alive) in their vegetables because nothing was ever used to keep bugs away from the food.  Can't this cause disease?  Can you help me figure out whether buying organic food is worth it? Thanks!
