Factors
There are many factors that affect metabolism. Lean muscle mass is one of the most important factors. Other factors are based mostly on demographics including age, height, sex, family history, and eating habits. -The older you get the more difficult it is to lose weight, because the metabolic rate slows down with age.
-Height is also a factor, because the taller the individual the faster their metabolic rate, because there is a bigger area for the body to fuel.
-Males have more body mass than women, so the metabolism rate is higher in men than in women.
- Family history is based on genetic factors. Some families have higher metabolism than other families.
-Eating small portions regularly increases the metabolic rate. The most important tip is to eat three solid meals and small snacks in between.
Exercise
Exercise is also important to increase the metabolic rate. This increase is generated by two factors, burning calories, and developing a lean muscle mass by exercising.
Like everything in life there is always an exception, and raising the metabolic rate is no different. The thyroid if not functioning properly can lead to weight gain. An overactive thyroid is called hyperthyroidism, and an underactive thyroid is called hypothyroidism, affecting weight, heart rate, and other bodily processes.
The most effective way to lose weight is to boost metabolism, by eating wisely and more often, not less. Eat lots of fruits and vegetables and healthy portions of proteins and carbohydrates. Exercise is also critical in this two step process, burning calories, and building lean body mass. This is a means to an end. Losing or maintaining weight and becoming healthy.
