Whole house water filters might be the right option for your family. You have to consider whether the whole house water filter can take the place of other systems around the house. As with anything else, the quality and prices vary greatly from one manufacturer to another.

Buying directly from the factory always saves you money. Whole house water filters are no exception to that rule. Whether or not they will be effective depends on the quality of your source-water.

Unlike countertop units, a whole house water filter is designed primarily to remove chlorine and microscopic particles. Some chemical contaminants are removed but a disinfection method is required to kill bacteria. In most homes, the treatment facilities do a pretty good job of that, but some bacteria are resistant to chemical disinfection and cysts can get in at other points in the system.

If you really want to know, you can have testing done by an independent laboratory. The quality at the facility is not a true reflection of what is coming into your house. If you live in an area that uses chlorine for disinfection, then you probably need whole house water filters.

Some people do not like the idea or washing the car or flushing the toilet with filtered-water. It might seem like a waste. But one thing that you are doing is protecting the quality of the air in your home. Since the best whole house water filter is certified to remove 99% or more of chlorine, then no chlorine vapors will enter your home.

Those vapors are known to trigger asthma attacks and complicate respiratory problems. There is some evidence that they could also play a role in various types of cancer. Whole house water filters may be the best way to protect your family’s present and future health.

When you compare quality, you want to look for Underwriter’s Laboratory certifications. It is your guarantee that the whole house water filter will perform as it claims.

Next, you want to look at micron filtration. The best whole house water filters block anything larger than 5 microns and that’s pretty small. It’s about the size of a dust particle.

Unless you want a higher electric bill, you want a whole house water filter that does not require electricity. This also saves on installation, because the only person that you need to call is a plumber. And, you must have the unit installed by a plumber or you will void your warranty.

Finally, you want to look at cost, both initially and for continued use. A whole house water filter may cost as much as $10,000. If a less expensive model is just as effective, then why not go that route. One of the best systems on the market costs just under a thousand dollars and the cost per month is less than $20.

Two of the best whole house water filters vary greatly in price, but as mentioned above, why pay more?
