Foods to avoid with gout
Gout is the inflammation of the joints caused by purines metabolism in the body , characterized by a raised blood uric acid level and deposits of uric acid crystals in and around joints , causing intense episodes of joint pain and swelling, which often happen at night, followed by pain-free periods.
Foods to avoid :-
- Eliminate fatty diets from your menu , such as oil, salad dressing, cheese, whole milk, butter, margarine, lard, chicken fat, mayonnaise, cream, coconut milk, pastries and dim sum.
- Reduce intake of meat like - offal, meat extracts, veal, bacon, sweetbreads, meat gravies and broths and Poultry like - turkey , goose .
- Avoid alcohol intake.
- Drink 8 to 12 glasses of water daily (2-3 qts) to promote excretion of uric acid. .- Avoid Seafood : salmon, mackerel , anchovies, mussels, crab, , trout, cod, herring, sardines and shrimp .
- Maintain ideal body weight, as obesity is often associated with gout .
- Limit mushroom, peas, spinach, asparagus, cauliflower, oatmeal, and whole wheat bread
- Simple carbohydrates and saturated fats also responsible for gout . So if you are suffering from gout try to avoid them .
- Coffee - it accelerates the breakdown of protein into uric acid .
- Fried foods cause depletion of vitamin E, which can cause uric acid to rise. So, try to avoid fried foods .
- Cream and ice cream .
- Rich desserts .
- Spices .
