Fresh Fruit: Nature's Antioxidant Preventive Health Care

Much has been said about the advantages of antioxidants but did you know that they are able to help fight a number of diseases and conditions and all this from something found in plants. When these compounds are found in plants they are called phytonutrients which work in conjunction with nutrients found in the human body to combat disease. More than 900 different phytonutrients have been found in plant foods already; huge advances in preventative health care and nutrition are advancing at an almost daily rate. The combination of phytonutrients in cherries is proving to have properties that can help sufferers of joint pain and fibromyalgia. Other substances, vitamins and minerals for instance, are also being studied more carefully even though their benefits are well documented. Blackberries, mulberries, and especially blueberries are rich in powerful antioxidants like resveratrol.

These compounds can help or suppress harmful body aging processes that often end in heart attacks, stroke, faulty blood pressure, and Alzheimer's disease. Tomatoes are another fruit that contains nutrients that can help prevent to the onset of certain cancers as well as heart conditions. Using concentrated tomato in the form of puree, sauce and juice is an even more efficient way of increasing intake of this fruit. More recently the refreshing watermelon has been discovered to contain some of the most beneficial phytonutrients yet seen.
