Honeydew – the Sweet Story of Good Health and Great Taste!

If you love watermelons, you can’t ignore the sweet beckoning of honeydew. Often referred to as “Temptation Melons”, honeydew is a popular member of the watermelon family the world over. There are very few among us who haven’t tasted this delicious fruit sometime in our lives. The popularity of honeydew can be attributed to 2 aspects – its great taste and its many health benefits. Let’s take a refreshing bite into this marvelous product of nature.

What makes the honeydew an excellent natural source of good health is the fact that they are not only low in calories, but also a great source of vitamin C. In fact, honeydew melons are fat and cholesterol free, low in sodium, yet delivers 100 percent on the critical energy component found in functional foods. The nutritional value of honeydew melon makes it an excellent choice for both weight control and general health. Honeydew melon helps prevent cardiovascular disease, high blood pressure, diabetes, and cancer.

Honeydew is also a great source of foliate that has become well known for its power to forbid birth defects and is of great importance to women of childbearing age. Foliate is an essential component when cells are dividing rapidly because it carries fragments of proteins. One cup of honeydew has just 60 calories and provides 70 percent of our day-to-day requirement of vitamin C. It contains plenty of water too, which can keep us hydrated on a hot summer day.

Honeydew is one of the most popular melons, preceded by cantaloupes and watermelons. Honeydew is the American name for the French variety, “White Antibes”, that has been pretty popular in France for ages. Today, honeydew is a popular sight in most fresh fruit stores and health malls. More and more people are adding it to their diet everyday for its wonderful health benefits. Some of the biggest names in the fresh fruit retailing business have also started adding cantaloupe to their inventory. Sundia Corporation, a name which spells the finest and freshest in watermelons the world over, has recently started selling honeydew. In fact, honeydew is an important specialty offering from Sundia Corporation. As with every product from Sundia, the freshness and taste of the honeydew is absolutely guaranteed! Sundia Honeydew and honeydew products are now available in the produce and refrigerated sections of grocery stores in the US.

A honeydew melon is slightly oval in appearance. It is around 8 inches long and is extremely smooth. It is usually devoid of ribs or nettings. The honeydew rind is greenish white in color when immature and somewhat creamy yellow when ripe. Good quality honeydew will have a light green, thick, juicy, sweet and uniquely flavored flesh. Sundia Corporation has partnered with the best quality Honeydew growers to bring to the world the best honeydew.

Did you know that honeydews are the sweetest of all melons when ripe? So the next time you see a juicy, orange slice of honeydew, go ahead and take a bite. It’s a wonderful feeling to know that you are not just relishing a great piece of natural delicacy, but also biting into good health.
