Liquid vitamin C is an important nutritional supplement to many of us. Most people probably already have an idea that vitamin C is crucial to the body. It is important to know however how exactly vitamin C can benefit the body and what advantages the liquid form carries over other forms. Here are some important facts that you should know about this all important vitamin.

Vitamin C Benefits

There are just so many good things that vitamin C can bring to the body. It is a known antioxidant that helps sweep harmful free radicals that are partly responsible for gradual cell damage. It also assists the immune system in warding off infections. On top of these functions, vitamin C is crucial for the speedy healing of wounds and damaged tissues. This vitamin also has a hand in collagen formation, iron absorption and fat metabolism.

Vitamin C Deficiency

Despite the obvious importance of the vitamin and its availability, some people still suffer from its deficiency. It is estimated that at least one fourth to a half of the grown-ups do not take enough vitamin C. Unknowingly these individuals may become more susceptible to such conditions as the virus-induced colds or gum bleeding. Others may have such poor immunity that infections can become common. Scurvy is also a typical consequence of not having the right amounts of vitamin C in the body.

Liquid Vitamin C

Vitamin C is essential to the body, but, unfortunately, our body is not able to make this substance by its own. The recommended daily doses of the vitamin C should therefore be taken from food and other sources. Fruits and vegetables are the naturally first options, and common choices include cauliflower, cabbage, spinach, oranges, grapefruit, pomelo and lemons.

It is not always possible to get the required daily doses of vitamin C. Some individuals may also need greater doses of it. In these cases, one may have to take vitamin supplementation. Some may have been used to taking it in solid form. Its liquid form however is often believed to be more effective in efficiently delivering the vitamin to the body's system. As liquid, vitamin C can be better absorbed by the body.

Overdose

Rarely do people get a vitamin C overdose, but it still occurs occasionally. The mildest side effect of an overdose is a case of bad digestion that manifests itself through diarrhea. Others may also experience some body aches, vomiting and dizziness.

While taking a little over one's normal dose of vitamin C is not life threatening, you should still watch out for yourself. You should always inform your doctor about your take of vitamin C if you have some underlying medical conditions or if you are taking other supplements and medications, as it is possible for vitamins to interact with other drugs and substances.

Not every liquid vitamin C product can benefit you. Some may come with artificial ingredients that may not do any good to your health. So, before buying a vitamin C product, you should always check out its ingredients. You may also consult your doctor for a good recommendation.
