Appetite is a feeling of craving something or a desire to eat food or drink and is usually felt as hunger.
Have you ever asked yourself, 'Am I hungry because I'm overweight?' or 'Am I overweight because I'm hungry?' To a certain extent you are hungry because you're overweight. This is because you have more body area and that means greater surface to radiate heat and a greater call for calories.
Here are six ways of cracking down and letting your appetite know who's boss:
1. Don't go without breakfast.
If you are rushed in the morning or are late for school or work and don't have time for breakfast take a banana with you to eat on the way, at least. It is far better to get into a routine where you make time for breakfast in the morning. Breakfast not only controls the appetite better but it also feeds your brain and bosts your metabolism to help you lose weight faster.
2. Opt for food that need a lot of chewing.
The more you chew your food the easier it is on your stomach to digest it. Don't gobble your food down as fast as possible as it will only sit heavily on your stomach and make you feel bloated and sluggish. Take your time to chew your food and thus enjoy the taste of it and so make it far easier to fuly digest it.
3. Don't wash food down with water. The only valid objection to drinking water with meals is that you may wash down lumpy masses of half-chewed food and thus unconsciously step up your intake.
4. Keep an eye on the calories.
To lose weight you don't need to count every single calorie that passes your lips. However, if you educate yourself and learn to get a rough idea of the number of calories in food you are in a far better position to be able to decide what to eat.
5. Make it easier for yourself.
Keep a bowl of fruit on the coffee table so that when your appetite kicks in you satisfy it with healthy low cal alternatives to candy and chocolate. Always keep healthy foods in the cupboard instead of junk food.
6. Don't let alcohol fool your appetite.
Alcohol plays tricks on your brain. How often has someone gone for a night out with plenty of alcohol then somehow desire a take away or a curry or something really fattening? Alcohol makes us think we are hungry when in fact we are not. You don't need to give up drinking but drink in moderation and avoid the nuts and crisps that usually go with it.
So, don't let appetite be in contol of you, make a stand a decide for yourself that you are in control and are armed with the ways to control your appetite.
