The Disadvantages of Reverse Osmosis Systems and How They Can Adversely Affect Your Health

Even as new models come out, the disadvantages of reverse osmosis is still there as their basic structure and set up allows dangerous synthetic chemicals to get into your water. Let's look at these and how to select a system that keeps you safe.

To the question of, does reverse osmosis make water safe to drink, the answer has to be no, not unless you add another filter on as well to try to keep the water pure!

These systems were originally made for the paper and printing industry to provide them with demineralized water. Whilst this is fine for industrial uses, we should not be drinking water without the trace minerals in like potassium, magnesium and calcium, and don't take my word for it as this is the recommendation from the World Health Organization.

Other disadvantages of reverse osmosis are that their filters allow the dangerous synthetic toxins through like pesticides and herbicides due to their small molecular makeup.

They also waste an incredible amount of water, discarding around two thirds of what they use, making them the least environmentally friendly treatment available, and they can cost up to three times as much as a more effective treatment as well.

If you want a system that removes over 99% of all the contaminants, leaves in the essential minerals and wastes no water then a carbon block one is the best, and the only one approved by the US EPA.

The best ones can only achieve that high removal rate if they use a multi-stage process, ion exchange and sub micron filtering. You can always ask for the manufacturer's performance data sheet to see exactly what they remove and to be certain you are getting the best possible one.

With prices starting at less than $100 for a counter top system, they are also affordable and give you a sustainable way of having pure and safe water in the future.

The disadvantages of reverse osmosis are so many that you should save your money and look for a quality carbon block system instead to provide great tasting healthy water.
