Weight Loss - Basics

Belly Fat!  Yuck!  How horrible is it?!  Not only is it unsightly but it is widely recognised as being a major factor in many health problems.  But you can lose that belly fat and be on your way to a new slimmer you.  Not to mention a healthier you.  And you don't need to break the bank on expensive programs.  The latest Weight loss Fad or Expensive Gym Fees.  And well, frankly, most of the time I would rather pull my teeth out than go to the gym.

But there is no need to deny yourself delicious foods.  No need to become a hermit and live of water and the occasional bowl of lentil soup.  You don't need to follow the latest fad that promises "a remarkable fat-melting breakthrough!"  A long term plan of achieving incremental change to your lifestyle habits will see you lose weight and keep it off.  Changing your eating habits along with sound advice from doctors and fitness professionals is also a must of any sustained weight loss program.

Here are a few basic tips for beating that belly fat and helping you achieve your weight loss goals.

Exercise - I know a dirty word for some people.  You do not have to go to the gym or carry out a soul destroying sweat session every other day!  A set of free weights, a mat and some simple exercises and a very small amount of time is all you need.  It just requires that you be consistent with your efforts.  Or more easily, you simply add a little more activity to your daily routine.  A walk, with or without pets.  Being a little more active around the house or with friends and family.

Diet - This should be an absolute no-brainer.  You can't lose that weight if you put junk back in!  And it's probably the number one reason why people suffer from yo yo-ing weight loss.  Keep your diet free of fatty foods as much as possible.  Get your hands on fresh fruit and vegetables.  A simple but effective technique is to switch to low-fat dressings.  Diet plays such an important role in your weight loss efforts.  Not to mention that a great diet goes a long way to keeping you healthier overall.

Talk to a Doctor or Dietitian - It is not a sign of weakness to seek outside professional help!  It makes great sense.  They can supply you with a road map to your weight loss goals.  And I know I do a lot better when someone gives me helpful suggestions on problems I come across.  They can also help by monitoring your progress and by suggesting improvements or changes to your current regime if it needs tweaking.  They are just a great resource of information.
