Here are some weight loss eating tips designed to get you in the frame of mind needed to really start losing weight for good. - Add a healthy snack to your day. Make smaller changes first for long term success. Opt for the healthier snack when you are grabbing something to eat, for instance if you have to have chips try the baked kind. Even better would be to grab snack from home like yogurt, apple, or throw a handful of peanuts or almonds in a baggie to bring with you.
- Slowly reduce your intake of sweets, sugars, and unhealthy fats. If your like me and have a sweet tooth this can be hard. I have stopped filling the house with sugary treats. Instead I try to buy the healthier snacks too like grapes, graham crackers, and raisins. If I must have chocolate I grab a little piece of dark chocolate.
- Drink more water. Sometimes when you think you are hungry you are really thirsty, try a glass of water first. When we are dehydrated we have trouble concentrating. Dehydration is associated with constipation, headaches, and fatigue. Learn to be mindful of your body’s signals.
- Eat whole grains. They are better for you, some studies show that they may reduce the risk of heart disease. Try brown rice and whole wheat bread. Whole grain products will be labeled as such or they will have a whole grain stamp on them.
- Try to avoid fast food. This may be easier said then done, fast food can be easy, cheap, and accessible. If you find yourself going through the drive through try changing your order to include some of the better food options. Lose the soda, drink water; opt for a small salad instead of a small fry; and definitely trade the mayo for mustard or ketchup.
- Change the landscape of your plate. Add more vegetables to your plate than meat and starches. This way you fill up on food that is better for you and has less calories.
