Choosing the Right Product is One of the Best Ways to Make Money Online

In affiliate marketing you can go about all the right ways to make money online—links, web content and advertising, etc. Yet somehow you’re not making the profits you expected. What’s the problem?  A bad product can wipe out all of your hard work. Therefore, it is important to start out with the right product. There is no perfect list or formula. Some factors may be more important to you than others, but all factors should be taken into account as you make your decision.

•    Demand for the product
You’ll want to make sure that a product has a good chance of selling before you invest your time and energy into promoting it.  This can be a double-edged sword. When you choose a popular product, be aware that others will notice this same popularity.  The competition for affiliate compensation will be greater and you will need to work harder to earn your sales.

•    Scammers
This is a corollary to product popularity.  The more popular and trendy the product, the more attempts there will be to counterfeit it. Although your product will be perfectly legitimate, the counterfeits will undermine trust in your products and make it harder to sell.

•    Commission/payment
Consider how often and how much you are getting paid. An entire article could go over how the various models for payment. You’ll want to pick the one that fits your situation best.

•    Merchant’s website
Your website might convince the customer to check out an affiliate website, but if that website is unprofessional or otherwise subpar, you and the merchant may both lose out on the sale.  Before signing up to promote a merchant’s product, make sure that the website where the sale is actually made is well-made.

•    Support and Materials provided
Merchants offer all different types of support to their affiliates. Some provide content and ads, while others leave them to fend for themselves. The more material they provide, the easier your job, so take that into consideration before signing up.
